PodGrasp - Podcast Player App Reviews

For the price it is a great app. It doesnt seem to have any major bugs and allows you to easily scroll through a podcasts archieve and easily find episodes. The only thing I would like to be added would the option to have podcast badges updates when new podcasts are available if the "Download new episodes" is unchecked.

Needs works in serveral ways. But its a solid foundation for a major need. Keep going!

I believe that this is clearly the best dedicated podcast player app for OSX - by far. The best things about this app are that it has a nice, clean interface that looks great, even on Retina Macs. It also does a great job of properly importing and displaying cover art for each podcast. The player controls are a little bit wonky, but not so bad that it makes the app frustrating to use; it isnt always obvious which podcast has the focus of the play/pause button. There is no podcast discovery function that I can find, which doesnt bother me because I have an OPML file of my favorites, which the app imported with no problems at all. I did have trouble adding podcasts by feed (which I never did get to work). My hope for the developers of this app is that they will keep moving it forward and avoid trying to add the kitchen sink. Stay focused on keeping this as clean and highly-refined dedicated podcast app and I think you have a shot at owning the OSX market for this kind of app. Ideally it would be great if there was an iOS companion app, but there are some great ones out there already (like Downcast). If this app could work in conjunction with Downcast to provide OSX/iOS podcast syncing it would succeed at something that even Apple hasnt been able to pull off! Even in its current incarnation, this is my daily-use podcast player, and I cant imagine ever going back to iTunes. PLEASE keep developing it so that it can mature.

I was looking for a podcast player for OSX, since i prefer the podcast players over iTunes. I have been using Downcast on my iPhone for the past year and a half, and i love it. I thought this would be similar to Downcast. I was very wrong. Since I dont have a file of my favorites I was not able to easily place my podcasts into it. It has no search feature, and wants me to add my casts via the URL. This is a real pain in the neck. Having to search for the URLs for all my podcasts is a waste of my time versus typing in the name of my pocasts. I hope that this feature gets added. This app has the potential to be very good, but due to its lack of "ease of use", I cant recomend it.

I bought this app so I could have some podcasts on my computer for later consumption; however, it is too bare bones. Its attempts at being minimalistic has rendered it practically useless. Adding podcasts is far too complicated, the way that the app downloads new podcasts is terrible, its lack of increasing the playback speed makes it a regular type of music type app for Podcasts only. In all honesty, your better off with iTunes. Im requesting my money back right now.

I was very hesitant to purchase this app because of some negatives reviews. However, after using it now I can honestly say that I completely love this app. The interace is simple and easy to use (although some people consider it bland, I am not one of them, it is perfect for my needs), importing my podcast subscriptions from Instacast on my iPhone and iPad was a breeze. Streaming podcasts worked as expected. This app has quickly become one of my most-used apps and joins the rest of my favorite Mac apps on my dock. I highly recommend it.

Crashes EVERY TIME I try to play a video podcast, whether downloaded, streaming, etc. Save your money and use iTunes….

Im glad to have a podcast streaming app on my Mac. OPML import from Instacast worked like a charm. The biggest problem so far is that the timeline slider doesnt move as the podcast plays. It fits my need though and for a very low price. Id like to see the developer charge more and refine the app a bit.

I wish it integrated with the play/pause/next/previous controls so that I didnt have to switch focus to the app. Otherwise it works pretty well.

In my last review I put this at the end: "If I could request one feature itd be support for chapters in a podcast. Add that and Id recommend this and rate at 5." - I am true to my word. I have to say that the developer really did well with this update. He added in my one feature request (thank you sir) and it feels snappier overall. While it still doesnt allow for searching podcasts, that doesnt really bother me. I can find those elsewhere anyways. There is definitely still room for improvement. Having the ability to set the folder where the podcasts download to (or at the least an "show in finder" contextual menu) would be nice. The ability to search for podcasts would be nice, but not really a big one. A dark color scheme would be nice, but not a deal breaker. A manual refresh button for each podcast individually would also be an added benefit (and possibly one that is more visible in the UI rather than in a menu). I recently purchased the instacast beta (I needed chapter support) and I have to say that while instacast does have some promising features and a bit of a cleaner interface, its nowhere near as fast as this. This is a minimal ui product. Its great. Buy it. Truncated Previous Review: Im not really sure how to feel about this app. Sure its cleaner than iTunes, but it basically does the same exact thing. Theres no new features. No added functionality on top of it. It just plays your podcasts. This isnt a knock against the developer. It takes a lot of blood, sweat and tears to get a product out the door. I just want it to be a worthwhile product. If I could request one feature itd be support for chapters in a podcast. bought this yesterday, tried to use it 3 times and Ive only been able to play 1 podcast so far. I subscribe to very popular podcasts and for some reason this just wont play them. I made sure the files are downloaded, tried deleting and re-downloading, etc. I wish it were working for me, but it just isnt :(

That is, a light app for podcasts with a UI like Podcruncher for iPhone. If youre looking for bells and whistles and automatic subscriptions this app isnt for you, but if you want to subscribe to your favorites and load em up for later, it works great. The only thing that kept me from that 5th star was that (unlike Podcruncher) you cant search for a podcast name and have the app find the rss feed for it--you have to go out on the web and find the URL yourself and cut-and-paste it in. Of course, you only need to do that once for any subscription, but some podcast websites dont make it easy to find. The next update that has this feature Ill give 5 stars (unless it breaks previous functionality), if thats any inducement for the author.

Worth the .99c I suppose, but one feature I deem neseccary on all modern Podcast players is the ability to do a search to find new and interesting podcasts. This you have to bring all your content to with no way to search or find new things.

Not a very good app. Does audio, but no video. The only way to add a podcast is to know its url, or import from opml. No easy way of telling which podcasts are downloading other than clicking through each one individually. No short cut keyboard commands accepted. Not much else about the app to rate on.
